World of Warcraft 7.2 Demonic Invasions Preview
While the final assault on the stronghold of the Burning legion lies a fair time away, Blizzard’s public test realm has been chugging along, showcasing a taste of things to come. Demonic Invasions are the newest addition, a familiar experience for player’s who may have experienced the pre-expansion event.
Using the world quest system, Demonic Invasions will deliver a chain of events and encounter’s designed for maximum level players, as the demonic hordes make one last grab for the Broken Isles. The invasions will occur in multiple points through each of the Isles regions, bringing a variety of fel forces into the world. These encounters can range from elite bosses to even “Impvasions”, meaning there’ll be multiple ways for each invasion to play out. When a zone is under assault, each world quest will count towards that zone’s faction emissary quest.
Just because the initial strike has been fended off doesn’t mean the zone is safe however, requiring players to defend a location under siege! These areas will be significant places throughout the Isles, such as Thunder Totem in Highmountain, or Black Rook Hold in Val`sharah. Different from the pre-launch Demon Invasions, players will have the opportunity to take the fight a bit further by participating in a three-player Scenario in which you’ll work to neutralize a Legion Command ship that is leading demonic forces on the ground.
Developer Insights: It’s in many ways, it’s reminiscent of the Invasions you might have experienced from before the Legion launch, but we built everything custom for each zone. We endeavored to make the Assaults feel as disruptive as possible without actively stomping on the core level-up questlines. Yes, the Legion is here and you should fight them. But, if you’re on Alt #13 because you want two Shaman characters (who doesn’t?) and would prefer the “Close Your Eyes and Make It Go Away’” method, you can go about your merry questing and ignore the demons destroying the world around you.
As the Demonic Invasions continue over the weeks, the Legion will be pushed back further and further, requiring more time between invasions. Unlike the prior expansion event, these invasions will progress independantly for each player, meaning that you can’t just leave your character in an invasion spot and watch a video while the other heroes do all the work!
While the Demonic Invasions are live now on the WoW PTR, you can find more information about them on the official news blog!
