Starcraft 2 Going Free to Play!
As always, Blizzard Entertainment kicks off Blizzcon with a bang, as their premiere Sci-Fi RTS Starcraft 2 is made Free to Play!
Starting November 14h, the base SC2 experience (known as “Wings of Liberty”) will be released to the general public, with Starcraft multiplayer included.
If you already owned the base copy of Starcraft 2 but never upgraded with either of the game’s two expansion packs : Heart of the Swarm or Legacy of the Void , you`ll recieve Heart of the Swarm instead! Unfortunately those posessing two out of three packs will still have to pay for Legacy of the Void.
This is a massive move for Blizzard’s E-sports division, as unbridled acess to the Sc2 platform will give the RTS genre a well-needed shot in the arm on the global competitive scale.
This move seems to echo Blizzard releasing the original Starcraft game once they had released a remastered version for purchase. Could this be a sign of a SC2 remix coming in the near future?
