Preparing for Legion Leveling
Legion is less than a week away and you think you’re ready to be the most efficient leveler you can be, but are you? Lets go over some things you can do to help get the most out of your leveling process before the expansion hits!
You can find your class and spec info on WoWhead.com or Icy-Veins.com in their class guides. While they may differ in small areas both have good information and we will not know specifics for level 110 until further testing is done in Legion and with simulations. Healing is an option but won’t be as viable for leveling as DPS or Tank specs. You can also find plenty of information for your class in the discord channels!
While it’s generally a waste of time to get as much gear as possible before a new expansion and have it replaced in the first zone, Legion seems to be an exception to this. As a mythic raider I was not replacing gear until level 107 or 108 on the beta. The demon invasions happening right now are the best source of gear to power level your way to 110. If your chosen class isn’t level 100 yet, now is the best time to level through the demon invasions. I was able to get my lowly mage from level 18 to 34 in two legion invasions! All of the gear that drops from these invasions will scale with your level and at 100 you will see 700 with chances of up to 720 item level. That’s what mythic Hellfire Citadel drops so be sure to get there and do it! Try to tag as many mobs as you can and try to save the lockboxes until you hit level 100 for the best chances to fill all your slots.
If you’ve been playing throughout WoD and done mythic dungeons or timewalking weekly events you will have new heirloom trinkets that you can use to level to 110. These trinkets will be the only heirlooms usable for the time being until other leveling heirlooms are updated in future patches. You can find the trinkets below to help you choose the correct one.
Gronntooth War Horn – Strength DPS trinket
Judgement of the Naaru – Healing trinket
Orb of Voidsight – Intellect DPS trinket
Infallible Tracking Charm – Agility DPS trinket
Purified Shard of the Third Moon – Tanking trinket
While it won’t help your experience while leveling, it will help you defeat your enemies faster and complete quests faster. Since you’ll want to gather these things before you start leveling then you’ll want to grab the WoD version of these items. On top of that, most professions won’t be leveled enough to provide the Legion version of these items to start with.
Flasks are a straight increase to your main stat in legion and they last through death so they are the most effective and efficient manner for extra boost. You’ll want to look for the following depending on your main stat:
There are three levels of food in WoD that you can use that will give 75, 100, or 125 rating of a specific secondary stat for one hour, with the price going up as the rating does. This late into the expansion you can find the best items for relatively cheap as people dump their items onto the auction house for the final bits of gold they can get.
Food bonus does not last through death so you will need to consume more after dying each time. Since you will take damage while leveling I suggest you get some of this stat buffing food then some random vendor food for when you need HP/MP back but already have the food buff. You can find the best buff food for your class and leveling spec in the guides over in the Icy-Veins.com class section.
Potions are completely up to you for preference and whether you feel the cost will be worth the short burst of damage. As with Flasks you will gain a buff to your primary stat (STR, AGI, INT) for 25 seconds. These are not something I suggest using on every mob as you’ll be throwing gold away very quickly, but instead save them for when you run into rare monsters.
Augment runes are consumables that can be purchased on the auction house that boost your primary stat by 50 for 60 minutes. If you did enough in Tanaan Jungle to earn the Empowered Augment Rune then you can use that once every 60 seconds and is not a consumable. It doesn’t work over level 109 so be sure to use them before then!
The new Broken Isles zone, Stormheim, will provide you with a grappling gun for you to use during your questing. This will be used for quests but also to get to rare treasures in hard to reach places. A Goblin Glider Kit will be useful to get back down from these high places in Stormheim as well as while you’re questing in Highmountain. These kits can be purchased on the auction house or engineers can make them for extremely cheap.
Professions in Legion are not the same as you’ve come to know them. You will need to complete quests in order to progress yourself to a certain level and unlock certain items. You will need to make choices in the types of products you’ll want to craft. Jewelcrafting, for example, will ask you to choose one of three gems to cut based around critical strike, haste, or mastery. You will be able to learn the others as time goes on but I suggest finding out what will work best for you as you hit the level cap and work from there. The quests you need to complete are in different zones based on the profession so be sure to look up the professions you will be playing with so you can figure out what zones will work best for you.
