Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide
Several weeks ago, I discussed the way in which Pathfinder Society Organized Play has become friendlier to new players in this article. This week I want to shine a spotlight on Paizo’s continued efforts to make their game more accessible by discussing the impending release of the Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide.
As I’ve written before, the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook is, for some, intimidatingly massive. With the exception of monster statistics, it contains everything a person needs to know in order to play in or run a Pathfinder game. A new player doesn’t need to know everything, however. In fact, a new player is probably only interested in two things: crafting a concept for their character and translating that concept onto a character sheet. Beyond a bit of the flavor text for each races and class, the Core Rulebook does little to guide a new player through the process of settling on an idea for an original character. Even less help is provided for filling out a character sheet.
Paizo’s answer to these deficiencies, The Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide, promises to, using Core Rulebook content, guide new players through the task of designing characters, being effective in battle, and more! Among other things, a step-by-step guide to creating and advancing each of the core classes will be in this book. In addition, those overwhelmed by the size of the Core Rulebook will be delighted to know that, at 160 pages in length, the Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide is almost 1/4 the length of the Core Rulebook.
In this blog post posted last week, Paizo updated the community with a numbered list of things we can expect to find in their new publication. Personally, I’m most excited about #2: a quiz that helps you figure out what kind of character you want to play.
The Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide is set to come out next month. You can pick up a copy here once it’s released.
