Overwatch Lunar New Year of the Dog Dev Update
It’s not just a return of the amazing Capture the Flag mode coming with the newest Overwatch update. Get ready for new maps, skins, and more!
To add on to this year’s Capture the Flag event, a new map has been introduced, being the first of it’s kind to be designed specifically fr capture the flag! Set in the country of Thailand, “Ayutthaya” is divded between a high tech modern side, and a much more ancient temple structure on the other. It’s going to be great seeing the interesting ways around the map that players will discover once the event begins.
Speaking of Capture the Flag, a brand new set of rules have been introduced for balancing , as well as to make sure less games end in a draw after both teams just play defence all match.
The new rules are:
- No more draws(Sudden death mechanic | Flags moved closer to center of map)
- Picking up flag is instant. Certain abilities will drop flag(ex. Winston’s Leap)
There will also be a special Competitive Mode for the truly ambitious flag-carriers, running for four weeks with a unique spray for all those who participate. Get in the top 500 players and receive a second, animated spray for bragging rights rewards.
As you can probably guess by the four week duration for the Competitive event, this year’s Year of the Dog event shall run for four weeks, to make things easier for those travelling to see family for the Lunar New Year.
And what about the loot, I hear you cry? Strut your stuff with 6 new LEGENDARY skins, including two brand new Mercy and Genji skins! Undoubtedly Widowmaker will be getting one, as can be presumed from the video thumbnail/Introduction. There is also a special new highlight intro, but it has been kept secret about whom it will belong to.
There’s no doubt that Blizzard will keep building on future events from previous years, so have a happy Lunar New Year, and go grab those flags!
