Overwatch Hints at Upcoming DoomFist Hero?
While Overwatch has teased the new character DoomFist for quite a while, new updates on the Public Test Realm reveal that he might be punching his way in sooner then expected.
In this video, youtuber Arekkz goes over the small details that have begun popping up across Overwatch for DoomFist’s introduction.
It’s worth noting that originally DoomFist was not intended to be a playable character by the Overwatch developers, merely a throwaway name for the cinematic trailer. Of course it’s not hard to see why a guy who can reportedly level a skyscraper with a punch might be seen as a person of note. Even when Ana and Sombra were in the works, people theorised the rise of DoomFist, due to Reaper mentioning how he should be doing his own dirty work. Given that his gauntlet is the payload for Numbani, it would certainly explain why one group is trying to stop the payload on the map.
However on the PTR, the payload’s model was datamined to have a few changes, with the glass container carrying the fist shattered. This could mean that DoomFist has stepped in and taken it himself, or that Reaper and Widowmaker have already stolen the gauntlet. Either way, this implies that the gauntlet could be in the hands of DoomFist.
User interface changes have also been found on the newest iteration on the PTR, such as DoomFist’s leitmotif appearing as a menu music file, and the hero icons in the hero gallery changing positions, leaving a clear gap for a new hero card to join the selection.
While it is unlikely that he will be released in the close future, it’s worth remembering that PAX East will be opening it’s doors in March, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase a new hero…..
Either way, DoomFist is sure to bring big changes to Overwatch.
