Overwatch competitive mode hits the PTR
Following a recent announcement regarding Competitive mode coming to Overwatch, Blizzard has wasted no time in uploading a snapshot of the upcoming changes to their team-based shooter to the public test realms.
Among these changes include :
Players can now swap the left and right sticks on a control pad to enable greater customization, as well as “legacy” control functions for those who prefer an older style of input
Adding McCree to the AI hero list for training maps
The addition of social functions for end of match screens, enabling players to find allies to play with.
The main attraction however, is the addition of the long awaited “Competitive mode” , to let the best of the best strut their stuff across Overwatch’s community.
First of all, simply reach level 25 , and you`ll be able to take 10 “Placement matches” to determine your skill rating, making sure you don’t end up against unbalanced teams. As you progress and raise your rank, you’ll encounter stronger and stronger teams, during the 2 and a half month season. as a result of doing your best , you’ll receive the best rewards!
Some of these rewards will include :
Unique sprays, including an animated Illios map spray , the first of its kind in Overwatch
Player icons , tied to your score, giving your team-mates another way to see your skill:
And finally, perhaps the most noteworthy and valuable prize : competitive points, that can be spent on GOLDEN GUNS , the models of which were data-mined by a now since deleted thread on Inven.co.kr.
Which gun will you be aiming for first?
It’s only a matter of time before these weapon skins hit the live servers and create the gold-plated paradise of high-skill competitive play. So now’s the time to get to level 25!

And if you’re worried about how matchmaking will be affected by these changes, game director Jeff Kaplan gave his views about how matchmaking ingame works.
