Overwatch Chinese New Year Event Review and Loot-Box Opening
Get ready to celebrate the chinese new year in Overwatch! With the end of the old year and the beginning of the year of the rooster, Neoshadowzac reviews each of the new additions to the FPS, ranging from stunning skins to many ways not to hold a firework.
While some heroes have been left out of the update in terms of skins, this usually has a good reason, either due to them receiving a skin recently (such as Torbjorn), or being a character where it wouldn’t fit the event, such as Zarya or Solider:76. Roadhog does get another skin, despite being given one for Halloween and Christmas. This makes sense once you realise the that blizzard has created several skins based on “The Journey to the West” the iconic chinese novel. With Winston as Wukong the monkey king, Roadhog as Zhu Bajie the pig-man (I wonder why…) , Reinhardt as Sha Wujing the sand priest, and Zenyatta as the monk Xuanzang. Even if you haven’t read or seen one of the multitude of adaptions of the story, it is easy to appreciate the attention to detail the Overwatch team has given to the skins, with even their weapons and acessories changing to be faithful to the story, with even Roadhog’s hook turning into a rake to represent Zhu’s rake weapon. D.va and Mei get the main attraction ticket however, with dva receiving an immaculately designed mech skin and Mei recieving not one-but-two legendary skins, each one worth its price in credits.
Li-jang Tower has also recieved a slight change to go along with the chinese new year event. with the event focused redesign for a Capture the Flag Brawl , featuring the first capture the flag based game-mode in Overwatch. With the garden area reworked slightly to make things festive, teams will have to be careful not to lose their flag while they go for their opponent’s flag. While a faster character like tracer may seem like a good idea at first, a Bastion or Torbjorn camping the point will have other things to say about it…..
This event will run from the 24th of January to the 13th of February , so anyone after those illusive legendary skins will need to work quickly!
Gōngxǐ fācái/Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!
