Magic: Official Commander Products In August!
Even though Announcement Day is set for June, today on April 18th, 2017 Commander players were given a treat via the official website DailyMTG.com!
The next set of official Commander products – which are usually released in November of each year – will be released on August 25th, 2017!
The announcement article says there will only be four decks, but here is why:
This year, Commander decks return with Commander (2017 Edition) on August 25, 2017*. The set features four new tribal-themed, 100-card decks including 56 all-new Magic cards legal in Vintage and Legacy.
Yes, we are releasing four decks this year instead of the normal five, since this year’s theme isn’t based on the color wheel but some of Magic‘s most popular, and interesting, tribes!
That’s right! Rather than restricting themselves to releasing a cycle of five decks based on two, three or four color combinations that have not been a theme for a Commander product yet, this time it’s all about tribes!
What does “tribal” refer to, exactly? Well, if you’ve ever played a deck based on the synergy of a specific creature in Magic such as Goblins, Elves or Zombies, then you’ve played a “tribal” deck! Tribal refers to a deck constructed and themed around a specific creature type and using the synergies and power of those creatures to overwhelm your opponents. Besides Goblins, Elves and Zombies, there are hundreds of creature types in Magic. Some of the other most popular creature types that allow for a great tribal synergy are Silvers, Faeries, Soldiers, Angels, Dragons, Merfolk and many, many more.
What tribes would you like to see represented among the four new decks coming in August? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned here on QueueTimes for more news about Magic and Commander!
