Magic: 25th Anniversary Product Announcements
Many new and exciting Magic expansion sets and products are coming in the next year to celebrate it’s 25th Anniversary! A handful of them were announced on the official website accompanied by a humorous video production, with hints that there is still more to come at a later time. Read on below for some of the amazing releases in store for the coming year!
The first announcement was the confirmation of Ixalan, a new plane featuring the Planeswalker Vraska! Players have been asking for both Dinosaurs and Pirates in Magic for many years, and now they’ll be getting both! The followup to Ixalan will be Rivals of Ixalan, wrapping up the events taking place in the first set.
Brave the Unknown as you venture to the new world of Ixalan, where all we know so far is that Pirate Vraska battles Dinosaurs. But do you need anything more? Find out when Ixalan releases September 29.
Stake Your Claim on January 19, 2018, as the second set in Ixalan block releases with Rivals of Ixalan.
Not much is known about Explorers of Ixalan other than that it will be a complete package, much like the recent Archenemy: Nicol Bolas.
Explorers of Ixalan is an out-of-the-box multiplayer Magic experience that challenges you to defeat your opponents along the way as you search for the lost city. Begin your exploration on November 24, 2017.
Magic continues it’s series of high-quality art books full of the enriching artwork that makes Magic stand out.
The Art of Magic: The Gathering—Ixalan will be available January 2, 2018. Set sail for the uncharted jungles of Ixalan, where dangerous beasts, magnificent ruins, and lost treasures lie waiting to be discovered. Saddle up your Dinosaur mount and brave the unknown as you search the plane for a prize forgotten by history . . . until now!
Continuing the Duel Decks series is Merfolk vs. Goblins, who are two of the most celebrated Creature types in Magic. The last product in this line was Duel Deck: Mind vs Might.
Duel Decks: Merfolk vs. Goblins, which releases November 10, 2017, pits two of the most recognizable tribes in the history of Magic against one another with two ready-to-play 60-card decks. Will you side with the reckless and wily Goblins or the graceful and cunning Merfolk?
Somewhoat surprising is the announcement of FTV: Transform. Transform cards have been contained to only two blocks in Magic and Magic Origins. Will Wizards surprise us and spread the theme to not just the known Transform cards such as Wereweolves from Innistrad? Time will tell!
From the Vault: Transform takes the From the Vault series and, well, flips it. From the Vault: Transform, which releases November 24, 2017, collects fifteen of our favorite transforming cards, each with its own story to tell.
At long last we are returning to the home of much of Magic’s history – Dominaria! We last saw it in the Time Spiral set as a post-apocalyptic wasteland where several Planeswalkers worked to close rifts threatening to unravel the fabric of the multiverse. It’s been many years and the plane has healed. What will we find there, now?
On April 27, 2018, we look to the past to move forward as we return to Dominaria with our next large set!
Rather than receive Eternal or Modern Masters this Spring, we’ll be opening a Masters set with many surprises in store from it’s entire history!
As part of our celebration of our 25th anniversary, we will be releasing a 25th anniversary–edition Masters set on March 16, 2018. The product will contain 249 cards from across Magic‘s entire history and will provide a drafting experience like previous Masters products. Available in English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
As announced by Lead Designer Mark Rosewater, Core Sets are returning to their Summer slot next year with much of the same function as in the past, but there are hints that it’ll be a bit different this time.
On July 20, 2018, we once again will be introducing core sets back into Magic. We’ve got some tweaks to the formula prepared, so look for more information as we get closer.
Lastly announced was the surprising return to the Un-sets, which is also welcome! Unglued and Unhinged before it were amazingly fun and sets that were built to draft with. They also included some pretty sweet full art lands. What special surprises will Unstable have in store?
We’re (finally) traveling back to the wacky world of silver-bordered cards when Unstable releases December 8, 2017.
It’s shaping up to be an amazing year to be a Magic player. You can find the original announcement page here! What are you most looking forward to? What are you hoping to see out of this year’s products? Discuss and let us know in the comments!
