Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne Missions & New Portrait!
Former World of Warcraft developer Dave Kosack has moved onto Hearthstone as the new lead mission designer, and he sat down with the players to discuss some exciting things coming with the next card set, Knights of the Frozen Throne!
The first announcement was that starting with the upcoming expansion set, each release will come with free mission content similar to the now-retired Adventures. When Knights of the Frozen Throne launches in August, players will be able to face down The Lich King himself!
The Lich King has not changed much from his dark and arrogant self known throughout the rest of the Warcraft universe, but he will leave you frigid with fourth wall breaking commentary and a touch of the Hearthstone humor players have come to expect.
You’ll be able to challenge The Lich King with all classes, and each class you play with will have a handicap against him. If you’re a Mage, for example, he sets your starting life total to 1 when the game begins. This is in addition to his other tricks, such as reanimating each minion you control that dies on his side of the board.
If you succeed in overcoming the challenge of defeating The Lich King with every class, you’ll be reward with a new Hero Class Portrait – the young Paladin, Arthas Menethil! Those familiar with the story know that Arthas fell to corruption while trying to save his kingdom of Lordaeron, ultimately fulfilling The Lich King’s plan of uniting with the night and becoming one, free of his prison The Frozen Throne. While Arthas and The Lich King became synonymous, the portrait represents the righteous, young Arthas Menethil during his time before his fall from grace.
