Bungie Admits Fault, New Destiny 2 Roadmap
For those following the debacle with Microtransactions and Destiny 2, Bungie has in the past been frustratingly silent as new content is repeatedly hidden behind Eververse, Destiny 2’s extra paid cosmetic shop. To finally answer the calls for change, Destiny 2 game director Christopher Barrett has addressed major complaints about the loot’n’shooter and Bungie’s frustrating lack of response to feedback.
To kick things off, Chris showed off a colossal list of upcoming changes (compiled by VG247.com) and got to work explaining the three “tiers” of Destiny 2 content.
The first tier is EXPANSIONS. These are the premium addon’s such as story updates, PvE content (Raids, Strikes) and PvP content like crucible. These updates and content are usually game-changing, and stay relevant for the game’s life-cycle.
The second tier is the EVENTS. These can be acessed for free, regardless of which expansions the player owns. This includes faction rally campaigns, season rewards, and holiday events such as the Dawning (Destiny 2’s Christmas event).
Finally theres the third tier : EVERVERSE. This tier is mostly cosmetic microtransactions , featuring customisation skins, emotes, and EXP boosts. Chris acknowledged player complaint that the content being released currently was stacked in Eververse’s favour, with most new content being locked behind the microtransaction paywall.“Eververse was never intended to be a substitute for end game content and rewards,” he said
To tip the scales away from Eververse , Bungie will be adding Ghosts, Sparrows and ships to activity rewards, meaning the rewards for actually playing the game will outweigh just spending real money for an already full-price experience.
While this promise should hopefully fix the balance between Microtransactions and acessible content, this still leaves EXP accumulation for Bright Engrams in the air. Hopefully Bungie will release information in regards to this soon, but for now it seems like they’re finally getting their act together.
